Athletics / Activities Update- 1-2-21 Happy New Year! Here is to 2021 being a drastic improvement from 2020! As many of you are aware the State County review which occurred Thursday has once again placed York County in the Yellow color designation which means there will be no in person meetings after school hours for clubs, activities and athletics. It was announced the next review will come on January 14th. In the mean time we will not be able to hold in person meetings, practices or games. We appreciate the frustration this causes and how much our kids need these programs as an outlet. We will continue to be prepared to go when we get the "Green" light. Thank you for your patience and we look forward to getting back at it as soon as it is safe to do so. If. you have any questions please reach out to me directly. firstname.lastname@example.org. 207-247-3141. ext 2216.

Hope everybody is staying healthy! One of the requirements for participation in Massabesic athletics is to have each student-athlete complete a concussion baseline ImPACT test prior to a contact-practice/event. The reason for this test is to have a baseline of each athlete's "normal" neurocognitive function, which will be used in comparison with their test results after a suspected concussion to help identify any neurocognitive deficiencies due to a concussion. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, baseline testing will be completed at home this year. Please see attached letter that contains the instructions on how to complete the ImPACT test. Testing should be completed in a quiet, distraction-free environment to get valid and accurate results to prevent needing to re-take it. At the high school level, ImPACT tests are valid for 2 years and are required for all incoming freshmen, any student new to athletics at MHS or a student that has a baseline that will expire within their allotted season. Each coach will have a list of the kids who need ImPACT testing based on the current RevTrak registrations. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please have patience as this is a new process. Thank you, Emily Nicholson, LAT, ATC Athletic Trainer SMHC Sports Performance Center Massabesic High School email@example.com

Good morning Parents and Students. Please see linked RSU 57 Activities Update outlining the recent MPA release. Thank you for your patience. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZSYb0nGxCfPqpW7-P0Bx2qTw3cBMegi99XU3ZI16DiM/edit?usp=sharing
Good Morning, As I’m sure many of you are aware, the Department of Education as well as the Department of Health and Human Services responded yesterday to the Maine Principals Associations plans for Interscholastic Athletics in Maine High Schools. Additionally yesterday the guidelines for community recreation have been updated by the Maine Department of Economic and Community development. DOE and DHHS have returned the plan for restarting interscholastic athletics to the MPA and have also asked for more time for schools to reopen safely before athletic activity. As a result, we await further State agency guidance regarding all fall interscholastic activities. We fully understand the frustration many are feeling at this time and we ask that you stay positive. We will keep you updated as this situation continues to evolve. Thank you! Sincerely, Brendan Scully Activities Director RSU 57
Remote Learners: Save the date!! We will be distributing student devices next Tuesday and Thursday beginning at 9:00 in the morning and ending at 7:00 pm. We will be distributing all devices from the middle school, More information will come out tomorrow and Friday.
Maine Principals Association New Release 8-19-20 We are presented with an unprecedented situation with the COVID-19 virus and continue to map the way as we move forward in a hopeful return to some fall activities. Currently, there has been no decision made regarding the fall season. The MPA Sports Medicine Committee, and individual sport committees, along with guidance from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), will look at each individual activity and a possible safe return for athletes, coaches, officials, and fans. We continue to work cooperatively with the Maine Department of Education, the Governor’s Office, DHHS, DECD, and the CDC, as well as Maine Athletic Directors, Superintendents, and School Boards as we develop possible guidelines regarding school athletics and activities. We understand that a decision needs to be made and assure you that one will be made in a timely fashion. We also would like to take an opportunity to thank each one of you that serve on an MPA Committee we could not do it without you! I also want to thank so many of you for your words of support they are very much appreciated!

Message on Spring Sports from the Maine Principals Association To: MPA Member Schools From: Maine Principals’ Association Date: March 16, 2020 Subject: Delay of Spring Sports ************************************************************************************************ This memo is being sent out to schools to help clarify the delay of the spring sports season. As the entire state deals with the Coronavirus Disease, and the impact that it is having on all Maine schools, we wanted to send out a statement regarding how each of you can assist us during this down time. We would ask each school to treat this time similarly to how you would treat the hands-off time between seasons and during the two-week period in early August. There should not be any organized team activity between now and the start of the spring season. Coaches should not be organizing individual workout plans for their athletes and there should be no expectation that athletes participate in any type of an organized training program. Please know that as soon as we can begin the spring sports season that we will do so, but during this very uncertain time that we ask each of you to help us out by following these guidelines.
